Tom Hardy has discovered how boxers are big softies out of the ring.
The British actor plays a fighter in new movie Warrior and says he was shocked at how boxers handle themselves when they’re not knocking each other senseless.
“The odd thing is that although the sport is ferociously competitive in the ring, outside it the fighters are almost universally gentle and kind,” says Tom who underwent training by professional fighters for his role.
“They really do look after each other, and you’ll always hear them asking how their opponents, their ring-mates, are doing. ‘How’s that spine injury?’, ‘How’s the muscles going, how’s the legs?’, things like that. They are very mature. Their skills are for the ring only. It’s the a**holes outside it, the guys with a chip on their shoulder, they’re the ones who provoke trouble.”
